Imagine Native Ltd. | Clay Reading Books & Gifts
Clay Reading is a small bookstore located at an office building in Shanghai. It mainly sells books on philosophy and theology. Since the store is so tiny, we tried not to occupy too much space for the books and leave more space for the readers when we started considering the spatial arrangement.
Bamboo was the main design driven force, as bamboo slips was used as books in the ancient Chinese. The books helves along the wall were designed in an inclined linear bamboo form, and some small inclined pillars were placed in the shop. The design creates a fresh and vivid spatial experience, like being inside a bamboo forest with bamboo swaying in the wind.
