Interiors Asylum | Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s Mouth

Asylum | Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s MouthAsylum designs Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s Mouth, two new Japanese F&B concepts exclusively tucked away in Forum the Shopping Mall, Singapore. Creative agency Asylum takes Japanese fine dining to a new dimension, while introducing a speakeasy-style Izakaya; designing Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s Mouth, opened by new restaurant group Iki Concepts. Housed discreetly in the basement of Forum the Shopping Mall Singapore, Kaiseki Yoshiyuki presents traditional kaiseki cuisine in an elegantly modern setting, while Horse’s Mouth serves Japanese bar food and cocktails with a playful mood. Different in personality, the two new concepts share the same interior space, measuring 418 square metres.

Asylum | Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s MouthIn the basement of the mall, a dark and enigmatic entrance leads the way to Kaiseki Yoshiyuki. Roof tiles are clad against the walls, paying homage to the origins of Kaiseki in temples of Kyoto. Upon entering the intimate 14-seater counter dining area, the ash paneled geometrical forms cast intriguing wall details in the warmly lit interior. Subtle touches of colour peek in from cutout windows of the origami flower display, creating a mood that is dramatic, yet sophisticated and elegant. A textural play of tradition and modernity, the details provide a preview to the intricately prepared degustation courses that are about to begin.

Asylum | Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s MouthExiting Yoshiyuki to Horse’s Mouth, the immediate vision of 3000 origami flowers across three glass displays creates an explosion of colour amidst the leather seats and dark wooden tables. Adjacent from the origami flower displays, brown wooden shelves house a tactile mix of used wood, akin to a well-stocked library of books.

Asylum | Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and Horse’s MouthCoupled with a fun and playful attitude, a speakeasy-style secret door from the Ramen restaurant upstairs leads down to the bar; enhancing the exclusivity and underground personality of the Izakaya, serving Japanese food and cocktails. Balancing the quiet elegance of Kaiseki Yoshiyuki and the playful attitude of Horse’s Mouth, the new branded space features the unconventional design tinged by surprise known to Asylum.
