The Building form derives from the strong and simple cube which is finally formed by the 6 storey high and decisive diagonal cut of the front part. This allows it to have an inviting gesture in form of stepping-up entry plaza shaded by the high “canopy” of the top 3 floors. Such arrangement provides a spatial connection between the entry plaza and open space of building central atrium.
Architecture of the building is understood as synergy between plans and the building image is based on the traditional Islamic approach. It is reflected in the construction of the building plan which is geometrically sound, regular and symmetrical as the most prominent Islamic historical building were through centuries. Geometrical pattern of the plan is taken further on as the “life motive” into the building forming functional structure and is used in forming its interiors.
The link with tradition is proved by selecting screen (mashrabiah) patterns from the vast cultural heritage of geometry, adapting builder’s techniques (mukarnas), and the play between blank and fenestrated walls, as well as, between light and shadow. Use of the architectural traditional elements does not contradict with the possibility to design a modern, efficient, and high tech building; it ensures that architecture of the building is solely Arabic and regionally rooted.Location: Kuwait
