The project should make city as it is located on a consolidated environment, so we redefined the architectural concept of a multiplexes building. Its located at the Balmes st., with a
real height of building between 25 and 30 m. Conversely Castanyer st. has average height of 13.5 m above ground.
Therefore the project fits the existing volume of both streets. This involves the concept of building a bridge between the two urban areas. The decision to combine the project program with the conditioning volumetric context of city involved the development of two distinct units but part of a whole.
The ground floor is the access but its too a distributor where complementary uses are located. These uses are confined in the lobby hanging the other part of the building while a body lift defines an “access” indepentdent therefore more controllable lobby within another. This floor is accessed, raising a plant, or a plant down the lobbies of movie theaters, by means of two different scales, and a body lift large capacity, five, entering both lobbies.
The staircase to the upper floors is accessed twice, so they really are two scales. And occupies the ramp to the parking lot, as does the staircase accesses the lower lobby. From these halls access to cinemas and locate services and also provides access to cabins located directly above.
The facades are composed to give the building the character of public facilities , a metropolitan scale . Not to mention the environment, two different landscapes , the Balmes st. and Castanyer st. . The adaptation to this stage involves two different facades but designed from public concept . So , essentially blind in one volume Castanyer st. , a flat facade with openings as needed , and windows in the first floor lobby and Balmes st. , which implied the two composition orders that we find in the main facade.
Balmes st., on the ground floor and the first are transparent glass , so that the body of the prism blasts off and take the land by a series of columns. This ” prism ” is limited by the sides that are perceived as a framework that limits and contains a plan defined by glazed trays , articulating different levels of the building, but also articulates the building with the environment, assimilating the balconies in excess of neighbor buildings.Enric i Robert Mir Teixidor, Architects
