The church is formally named after John the Baptist has also earned the name of the Highway’s Church for its location (43°49’54.45″N – 11° 9’28.07″E) between the Highway of the Sun and the A11 Firenze-Mare Highway, and for the fact that the church was built for honoring the workers who had died during construction of the freeway.

The Church was built among 1960 and 1964, on project of the architect Giovanni Michelucci (January 2, 1891 – December 31, 1990).
