Liberating beauty, now
The 8,500-square-foot store interior has been designed by Bob Williams and New York architect James Bartholomew. This boutique is the 22nd to open worldwide and the company will open three more this year, to make a grand total of 25, which is also the number of years the company celebrates in 2014. The store will be in stock on the vast majority of merchandise on the selling floor (over 400 products) and also offer customers and the design trade the ability to custom-order pieces (over 1 200 products), delivered in just six short weeks in most situations, as opposed to months, an uncontested advantage in the industry.
“We are really excited about expanding our international presence in Canada and establishing our style leadership position, as we have done in the States. Montreal is such a beautiful, vibrant city, and to be part of the ongoing revitalization in Griffintown’s industrial neighborhood is key,” says Gold. “Griffintown is going to be an important destination with family friendly parks, playgrounds, bike paths, condos and retail stores. We are happy to be a part of it.”
It is no coincidence if Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams chose to open alongside Celadon, a high-end furniture store rooted in the Montreal landscape for over a decade. “This closeness comes from a long successful selling relationship of seven years,” explains Patricia Lepage, manager of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Montreal. “Today, this iconic American brand will be highlighted with its own freestanding store at 1057 Wellington Street, in the heart of Griffintown. Together, we truly form THE design corner of Montreal, at the intersection of Peel and Wellington, with Celadon and the addition of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.”
Setting the mood
The goal was to create a clean and modern backdrop for the company’s upholstered and slipcovered furniture, casegoods, lighting, area rugs, accessories, artwork, and an exclusive bespoke bed linen collection by Matouk. The design philosophy is based on making comfort the priority for look, feel and value, and mixing unexpected pieces to give each setting a unique, modern twist.
“Having a space to showcase the majority of our product line will let consumers really experience our way of living,” added Bob Williams, president of design and co-founder. “We know buying furniture can be an anxiety-ridden purchase, and we want everyone who walks through those doors to feel welcome, comfortable and very well taken care of.” The store will even be dog-friendly, with treats readily available to four-legged friends. The new fall collection, “setting the mood”, will be the scenery for the grand opening celebrations.
Who we are
To commemorate their 25th anniversary, Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams have released a new book in a unique format. Who We Are, published by renowned book house Assouline – it is a combination coffee-table and business book that shows the many sides of their story, from style and design, to entertaining, to social issues to which they’re devoted. In line with the company’s values and unfathomable support of causes close to their hearts, 5 % of Montreal store sales during the week of September 8th, 2014 will go to GRIS-Montreal (Groupe de Recherche et d’Intervention Sociale), a non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure a better awareness of the homosexual and bisexual reality and to make it easier for gays, lesbians and bisexuals to integrate into society.
