Stirixis Exclusive completed the renovation of a 2-storey apartment, located in the northern suburbs of Athens, Greece. This project won the Best Interior Design Apartment in Greece Award by the European Property Awards 2014-2015 in London. The apartment was originally decorated as a showroom, in collaboration with Casa di Patsi modern furniture collection, and now is decorated with furniture and colors to match the style and needs of the new owners.
The project or renovation lasted a few months, including all steps from demolishing and redesigning the apartment’s interior to managing the construction process. The bigger challenge was to completely convert an outdated apartment of the 80’s into a modern residence, while fitting it to its natural surroundings. To achieve this, the interior was built again from scratch and its structure was reformed.
The main concept was to create a space that exploits the natural light coming from the large windows. So, the proposed idea was that the living room, the dining room and the kitchen co-exist in an open-space scheme. Most of the concrete walls were replaced by bronze semi-transparent glass partitions, which divide the space and make it seem bigger and lighter.
The staircase leading to the attic was designed with “floating” steps and LED lighting, which create a nice atmosphere during night. Two stripes of beige forged cement are placed on the floor of the living room, making a great contrast effect with the rest of the dark wooden floor, both as colors, but also as styles. The same material is used for part of the fireplace, which is a combination of traditional materials and modern energy-saving technology.Location: Athens, Greece
