Aristide Antonas | Keg Apartment
The Keg apartment is proposed as the program of a transformation. It is proposed as a “do it yourself” production. One can recognize different strata of architectural solutions in this work; the work functions firstly as the call for a transformation that can be operated by anyone, not necessarily exactly as proposed but following the rationale of the specific design. In its presentation different drawings are grouped in two versions.
In both cases the keg wagons can be detached from their cars and form units that may stay stable for a certain period. A big circular window, introduced in the cylinder’s front side with the use of an enforced, metallic circular frame. This will give the form of a window open to the driver’s section or to any chosen view, in the case that the keg stops in a specific place. The circular window can also serve as a projection screen surface when a special curtain is unfolded in front of it.
An archeology of existing mechanical remains and the reinterpretation of them in unexpected ways is undertaken in terms of a design process. Designing in some of the examples is a curatorial project that orchestrates existing things. A multitude of Keg Apartments can orchestrate ensembles for moving ad hoc communities.
