FMD Architects | Eastern Residence
The aim of the renovation was to enhance the use of the formal areas and modernise these spaces while retaining the Victorian character. Bathrooms were also renovated to accommodate the changing needs of a family with teenage and adult children.
Previously renovated reproduction elements in the house were removed in preference of a new design approach, which highlights the difference between the modern renovations, while deferring to the houses previous Victorian life.
The existing layout of the house has remained intact, with new openings between the formal dining and living areas. All other spaces are retained as is. While appreciating the embellished Victorian features, the client wanted a simple modern approach to the new elements introduced into the spaces.
A restrained approach was adopted with muted colours and textures. Simple forms and lines introduced, with ‘quirks’ in the joinery elements to emphasise the clients briefing particularities.
