1 SHATOTTO architecture | Rokia Afzal Residence

The land for this vacation house is in Gazipur, a suburb approximately forty kilometers away from Dhaka. With a land area of 160,594 square meters, the initial challenge was to select the most suitable location on site to construct this 465 square meter house. Traditionally, the people of Bangladesh consider land as ‘mother’ and this gave way to the design. The whole construction remains detached with minimum structural touch on the ground – in line with Glenn Murcutt’s words, “touch the earth lightly”. The idea is to “let water flow, let wind blow, let the firefly glow, let the grass grow.” [Read more]

4 Óskar Vélez Carrasco | Howa House

Close to one of the best known little beaches on the Spanish Costa Brava, Sa Riera Beach in Begur, on a very steep piece of land a new villa has been built up. Due to combination of orientation and orography of plot not being particularly in favor for the resolution of the task commissioned, the final volume achieved ends up resembling the shape of a gun embedded in the ground. Since the beginning it was clear that a house so high on the hill should overlook the bay instead of the valley. [Read more]

8 Óbvio Architecture | Harmony between past and future

Inspired by the recent past, contemporary architecture, as opposed to modern production, aims highly for the elapsed time, without losing its major focus: the future. Thus, creates a perspective with wider horizon, refuses to impose itself to the known limits and takes past models to be copied or timidly adapted. Executed by the architects Luciana Araújo and Nathália Otoni, members of Óbvio Arquitetura, the house built in Minas Gerais, Brazil, materializes this whole concept. [Read more]
