The proposal, for a contest, is a single volume in the same position as an existing building of vestries in poor condition to be demolished, but maintains its basement that houses the pool facilities of the Sports Complex in Arróniz. The building rests against an existing pelota court and resolves internally the connection between the two levels of the area: the lower of pools and the upper of the court.
At the pool level, the building includes the general changing rooms and a new main access, and a large covered space for future extensions and picnic area. In the upper lever there is a new bar, a fitness room, locker rooms and storage spaces, and a large sun terrace overlooking the pool and connected with it. In addition, the terrace stands a paddle tennis court. It is built with a high degree of prefabrication, with plywood pillar structure and prefabricated slabs, thus optimizing costs and execution processes.
The plywood pillars, apart from little maintenance, act as a protecting lattice from direct sun from the South and provide a new built background to the complex, simple and with an appropriate scale. Moreover, in addition to a public initiative, is essential to follow exemplifying criteria of integration, energy saving, sustainable construction and good use of public money.Location: Arróniz, Spain Architect: alcolea+tárrago arquitectos
