Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorWords cannot describe the exceptional residence designed by Australian architects Dominic & Marie Bagnato other than breathtaking. The clients brief was simply to design a large home spread over one single level that incorporates all the necessities required for a family with 4 children that can be divided into separate zones without feeling too large & overwhelming.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorThis split level home was designed to incorporate beautiful rooms that seem to merge with one another to create the most graceful and inspiring space for entertaining and enjoying the ambience of volume and light using natural materials such as travertine stone, marble, timber panelling, feature mirrors and a colour palette that is warm and inviting. The house is sited on a site with a total area of 2,700 sqm (29,063 sq. ft.) and the house itself is 1,160 sqm (12,486 sq. ft.).

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorUpon arrival, you are greeted by a rendered masonry fence with laser cut custom designed screens as infill panels that hides the wonderful modern home behind. A central gate leads you to an undercover portico that is two storeys high and reveals a building clad in walnut travertine stone tiles. Two mature palm trees on either side of the portico help balance the house while a circular driveway also leads you to the front door under the portico that resembles arrival to a luxury hotel where you are greeted by a door man to usher you into the luxury hotel that waits. At night the landscaping is highlighted by feature lighting that is dramatic & theatrical.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorOnce you enter the home you are greeted by a vast entry with floor to ceiling tinted glass housed in a contemporary timber veneer arch. Oversized furniture & an oval mirror compliment the feeling of a hotel foyer. Adjacent to the entry is the main bedroom which is situated on the corner of the building looking out into the garden through butt jointed glass. Inside, a private luxury room provides ample space for a king size bed which is surrounded by a custom designed upholstered bed head. The room is large enough to accommodate a central free standing open fireplace clad in pietro grgio marble and a television.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorBehind the fireplace is a parents retreat with views to the Paul Bangay designed garden, where morning sun can be soaked in. From within the bedroom you can enter a large walk in closet that could be mistaken for a luxury boutique store with its custom built shelving & integrated features that houses the client’s private clothing collection & accessories. The room also includes an island cabinet that houses a jewellery draw and a place to sit and get dressed.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorA large adjacent private bath room with free standing bath tub and double bowl vanity unit and floor to ceiling marble & stone completes the theme of a luxury hotel retreat. Once you return to the main spine of the house, the hallway features floor & wall Walnut travertine stone tiles with highlight tinted mirrors. The long hallway is broken up with a central landscaped courtyard to allow light to enter the building. The main home office & games room looks onto this garden area and provides a private zone for adults. Inside the home office, the walls are lined with extensive timber shelving and cabinets including the use of walnut travertine stone benches and floor tiles.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorThe games/media room houses a bar with a walnut travertine bench top that wraps down the sides of the island bench & a kick rail for bar stools. Tinted black mirror is used as an internal finish to the bar. A wall of wine racks is a key feature of the room displaying all the characteristics of a private bar found in a luxury hotel. The games/media room also houses an area for watching TV. A special request by the client was that he wanted to show off his car collection. A large glazed wall within the room acts as a feature wall displaying the showroom quality collection. Off the central hallway a private children’s zone is located which is a mini home within a home with the children enjoying 4 private bedrooms with their own bath rooms and walk in closets that look onto private courtyards and a central living area. A guest bedroom, bath room & art room complete the main private areas of the house.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorAt the rear of the house, the vast expanse of the living space is revealed with its high ceilings and fully glazed walls. The main family living area has a feature wall containing a modern fireplace clad in Walnut travertine stone tiles and black mirror. A black TV is mounted in the centre. A contemporary plaster bulkhead frames the fireplace. The fireplace with stone surround & central TV is the focal point of the room with butt jointed glass to both sides. The open plan kitchen, meals & family room are all integrated under the one space with a ceiling bulkhead emphasising the main dining table. The kitchen is at one end of the room and is constructed of solid timber and stained chocolate with calacutta marble to the island bench & backsplash. Black mirror is also highlighted as a backsplash under the island bench & side buffet unit. The side cabinets are highlighted with open display boxes, a calacutta marble top & black back splash with under bench lighting. The floor tiles throughout are walnut tumbled travertine tiles as carried throughout the house both inside and outside.

Bagnato Architects Designs | Borrell street KeilorThe rear of the houses is connected to the inside by an undercover patio area housing a built in B.B.Q. & kitchen area another fire place and grassed play area for the kids. An indoor swimming pool, gymnasium & tennis court provide all the resort facilities you would expect from a luxury home that has been designed as a luxury boutique hotel.
