The highly anticipated 19-story, multi-unit high-rise located on the corner of South College Avenue and East Veteran’s Way, has recently obtained a certificate of occupancy and is set to open its doors to residents on August 14th. The building enhances the natural and man-made environments of the historically sensitive site and surrounding neighborhood by offering students and young professionals a comfortably modern, connected place to live, work, and play. Home to 600 residents throughout 17 stories with an additional two floors of retail, restaurants and office space, HUB on Campus represents the new area of upscale construction in the Valley of the Sun.

Beal | Derkenne Construction | HUB on CampusThe project promotes a well-balanced lifestyle by offering a 40,000 Sq. Ft. amenity deck with a 22 foot outdoor LED screen, 2 outdoor pools, sand volleyball court, indoor/outdoor fitness center, 40 person hot tub, yoga room, steam room, and outdoor study areas with Wi-Fi access. The interior complements the exterior amenities with fully furnished modern interior units with high-end kitchens and stainless steel appliances, solid core doors to minimize noise, study rooms, conference rooms, and a business center. On the ground level, designers incorporated 25,000 square feet of retail shops and boutiques, 6,550 square feet of restaurants, and laundry/dry cleaning services to make running errands convenient for students. Just a few steps away are Arizona State University, Sun Devil Stadium, Stray Cat Theatre, Mad Hatter Brew Pub, and many other popular Tempe entertainment destinations that can be conveniently reached by Valley Metro light rail located across the street at Tempe Transit Center.

Beal | Derkenne Construction | HUB on CampusAll deadlines were successfully met to insure the occupancy of the building could begin prior to the start of ASU’s fall semester. To achieve this stressed goal, BDC re-energized local trade industries by providing over 450 constant trade positions for over 16 months. This positive energy flowed throughout the duration of the construction process and has led to a remarkably clean and efficient construction site making it easier for the different trades to work respectfully side-by-side. Limited working space and the challenging geometry of the lot has led to streamlined communication between the general contractor (Beal | Derkenne Construction, LLC) and individual trades to keep the job site running at maximum efficiency. BDC has gone beyond the norm of construction management with the HUB on Campus to showcase the future of on-site construction management.

Beal | Derkenne Construction | HUB on CampusHub on Campus promotes sustainability through luxury and fun by being awarded LEED accreditation for environmentally conscious systems and finishes and by introducing a comfortable, convenient way for students and young professionals to stay connected while preparing them for success in their future endeavors. “Constructing the HUB on Campus involved strict coordination and setting realistic deadlines in order to complete this project successfully on time. Our team had a magnificent design goal to accomplish in a comparatively short time frame, and through proper trade collaboration we achieved that goal,” said Mike Derkenne, Co-Owner of Beal Derkenne Construction.
