The investor owns a small apartment of 30 square meters .The apartment has two elements, the chimney channel and a pillar, which divide the space into two zones (the living room / bedroom and the kitchen / dining). This small apartment also has a big terrace of 19 square meters. The investor requested a program that would accommodate a comfortable bed, his current large A/V entertaining system and his workstation pc all in this apartment.
From the existing space that was given to us to work with, we tried to divide the living room from the bedroom. With the possible disposition of the existing kitchen into the deep space of the living room we gained a possible bedroom. Also, with the possible expansion of the apartment into the terrace space, we gained 6.7 square meters that add to a bigger bedroom which now can include a work table and the living room gained space for a lounge chair.
For the wall that separates the living room from the bedroom, we proposed to be built out of furniture. This furniture wall from one side houses the big stereo speakers, TV and receivers, with the necessary cables for the A/V systems and the power cables, and from the other side the wall is a closet. We divided the wall into modular panels that from the side that houses the entertaining systems, so they can be accessible . Also this raster is repeated onto the other walls.
The dividing central wall also hides the sliding door for the bedroom and the shoebox. The goal was to hide the corners that the construction elements create, so that we can use them for storage. So, with these three steps (the dislocation of the kitchen, the possible extension of the apartment and the dividing wall) we successfully completed the investor’s requests.Location: Skopje, Macedonia Architect: Goran Chalovski, Kortina Konsalting
