The projected communal space is part of the masterplan sector f38/1 of Zaragoza. It’s located on the terraced hillsides within the natural environment of “Cabezo Cortado” which in turn is located at the southern border of the city. Interestingly, it is also in this part of the city where a new area of urban development is planned whose purpose is not only to include new properties and allotments but also to recover and maintain natural areas which are currently abandoned.
The main idea behind the master plan is a large park that will accommodate properties, allotments and large public spaces all in one. All the way from the lower grades of the plan, we can observe ascending routes towards the top of the “Cabezo” as well as living areas and viewpoints which pay tribute to the remarkable surroundings. The residential areas not only will enjoy from the proximity to a park but will also appreciate the privilege of living in the middle of it.
The design of public spaces takes advantage of the different levels across the streets bordering them in order to create private spaces in direct contact with nature. The view from both streets creates both an ascending and descending sequence of green spaces that remind us of the land’s own topography.
It is an artificial recreation using folds whose sole purpose is to create rest areas, playgrounds and visual relationships. Pedestrians will be moving around these rest areas and will enjoy the visual contact with the surrounding green spaces. The arrangement of these green spaces will encourage the climatic conditions.Location: Sector F-38/1. Saragossa, Spain Architects: Javier Prieto Architects
