As the workspace for the professionals that make strive to make customers their most glamorous, it’s no surprise that hairdressing salons have become synonymous with cutting edge interior design. For the style set in Melbourne, Australia the salon design stakes have gone up a notch with the creation of Charlie by Australian design studio SJB Interiors. The salon is the newest venture from celebrated local hairdresser Stacey Pavlou who in late 2010 opened the popular Spunky Fox salon only several streets away in the trendy Melbourne suburb of St Kilda.
Due to the salon’s rapidly growing clientele, Pavlou needed a larger working space less than a year later, the result being Charlie, named after his beloved pet Spoodle. The interior, designed by Andrew Parr of SJB Interiors, evokes a sense of residential luxury intended to put customers at ease. The European styling features grey timber floors and walls accented with furniture and decorative pieces in bold fluorescent colors, including a vintage sofa reupholstered in eye-popping purple and sleek, black pony hide armchairs.
Custom-made screens divide the waiting area and wash stations while eye-catching artworks adorn the walls including a vintage Helmut Newton poster from the 1970s.Location: Melbourne, Australia Design studio: SJB Interiors Photos: SJB Interiors
