Notes taken from Fausto Ferrara’s sketchbook:
“ The project was conceived as a house that would be landlocked and introverted internally. A “world within the world”. The formal features are reminiscent of a “Roman domus”, with a court and a house inside. In order to ensure a greater respect for the surrounding environment, almost all of the building’s external facades are devoid of openings. In particular, the only external opening lies to the south, and cannot be said to represent a true opening of the dwelling, but rather an outward extension of the inner courtyards, which allow the inhabitant to open up and enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape and the valley to the south. The project can therefore be recognized as a single-family dwelling within the surrounding walls, which embrace and protect the building while forming two internal courtyards: the green courtyard to the east, and the water courtyard to the west. These courtyards, which can only be seen and accessed from inside the walls, constitute private sections of the dwelling, thus leaving the natural character, that has now been so well defined, just outside. “

hmmm, try reading the Pattern Language. 191 “The Shape of Indoor Space”.
Pretty much every every wrong choice has been made with this depressing building.
It is ALL about the interstices of things, incomprehensible that one would honor the “outdoors with blank oppressive walls.
    Introverted fear based design = isolation= class stratification= dis-honoring community= destruction of culture= ???
